Instrumental Music

This is our inaugural year of the instrumental program here at Choir Academy of Harlem. We consist of three high school bands and four middle school bands. Each high school band class meets five days a week and each middle school band class meets twice or three times a week. Students are welcome to join at any level of music literacy or musicianship. The instruments currently offered include, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion. For those students who cannot afford to rent or buy an instrument, they will be provided one by the school. As our program grows and matures, there will be many opportunities to perform regardless of band class placement.

Audition Procedures

If a student is already proficient in a wind or percussion instrument they should plan to audition on this instrument and prepare a short selection of their choice. Students will then be asked to demonstrate their ability to echo simple rhythmic and melodic sequences using the voice. Students will then be assigned to a class that matches their ability.

Dance

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Choir Academy of Harlem has begun a dance program.  If you have a child who is interested in learning the disciplines of ballet, modern, and tap, then you should contact Ms. Karla Mcfarlane at: (212)289-6227 ext: 225.  This is a great opportunity to highlight the talents of those students who have taken dance at one time, but have not been keeping up with their classes, and it is definitely for the dancer who has never had formal training.  If you have a child who has a great love of dance, then we can’t wait to have him/her become a part of the dance program here at Choir.  We look forward to hearing from you soon.
